Manchester United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Kit Margetson from Swansea City, with the 19-year-old joining after his contract ended. A compensation package was agreed between the clubs.

Goalkeeper's background

Margetson, a Wales Under-21 international, is the son of former England goalkeeper and current Wales goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson. He progressed through Swansea's academy from Under-15 level and spent last season on loan at Cymru Premier side Connah's Quay Nomads, where he kept 10 clean sheets in 34 appearances and helped the club qualify for the Europa League.

"Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young goalkeeper Kit Margetson, subject to registration," a United statement read. "Last season, he had his first taste of senior football on loan at Connah's Quay Nomads and kept 10 clean sheets in 34 appearances, helping the Welsh side to qualify for European competition."

Second Welsh goalkeeper this summer

Margetson becomes the second Welsh goalkeeper to join United this summer, following Karl Darlow on a free transfer from Leeds United.

Swansea's statement said: "Swansea City goalkeeper Kit Margetson has joined Manchester United subject to the relevant approval, after the two clubs agreed a compensation package."

Midfield targets

United are also intensifying their search for a third midfield signing after adding Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reports that personal terms have been agreed with Roma's Manu Kone, who impressed for France at the World Cup. United are reportedly preparing an offer worth around €50 million (£42.7 million) but face competition from Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Saudi club Al-Ahli.

Other midfield targets include Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, as well as Brighton's Carlos Baleba.
