Man Utd Scout Rafael Leao After Snubbing Cunha's Plea

Manchester United have pushed forward with their pursuit of AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, despite Matheus Cunha insisting the club does not need to sign another wide player. Club scouts were in attendance as Milan played out a goalless draw with Juventus on Sunday evening.

Scouting Mission Confirms Interest

The 26-year-old Portugal international has two years remaining on his contract and is believed to be available for around £52 million. Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that Leao is not considered 'untouchable' by Milan and could be tempted away from Serie A this summer.

According to The Telegraph, United are keen to overhaul their squad and are specifically targeting a new left winger. While midfield remains the priority for the upcoming transfer window, adding Leao would significantly strengthen their attacking options.

Leao has recorded 12 goal contributions in 26 appearances in Italy this season, attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and Barcelona. This confirmation of United's interest suggests a new plan for summer signing Cunha, who has made 10 appearances on the left wing this term.

Cunha's Versatility Not Enough

Cunha has five goal contributions from that position, with a further 21 appearances as a centre-forward or number 10. The Brazilian was eager to prove his worth to interim boss Michael Carrick after arriving in January, insisting he could perform on the flank.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Cunha said: 'To be honest, I know I have these skills to dribble and this is amazing because I spoke to Michael when he arrived. He said 'hey we need one winger, maybe we'll put Patrick [Dorgu] there because he's on the left.' I said to him 'no, you can put me there and I will do the things.'

'Now when there's training, I dribble more, I have more winger qualities. To get the ball, go one against one. Everything like that. I played more in the middle at Wolves. To show this kind of skill, I feel like I can adapt well in different positions.'

Despite Cunha's willingness to adapt, United's ongoing pursuit of Leao demonstrates their determination to strengthen the wing. The 26-year-old has seven goal contributions in other positions this season and has won over fans with his match-winning performance against Chelsea last week.

Carrick's Praise for Attacking Options

Carrick has been full of praise for his versatile attackers, noting that Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko each bring unique qualities. Speaking after the Chelsea victory, the United boss said: 'Between them, all of our front players can give us something different.

'I think that Bryan and Matheus have performed really well this season and Ben has also shown he is finding his way and still managed to score important goals.

'Sometimes it can take a while to get used to things after arriving at the club, but those boys have shown their attributes, personalities and the flexibility where they can play in different roles and it's good for the team to have players who can help us in that aspect.'
