Manchester United suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, leaving head coach Michael Carrick fighting to save his job. The result ended United's unbeaten run stretching to eight games.
Carrick's gamble backfires
Carrick had promised a "different team" but left captain Bruno Fernandes out of the starting lineup following his criticism of their tactics in the 4-1 midweek defeat in Como. Shortly before half-time, Rayan was completely free at the back post to stab home from a free-kick.
The lead was doubled when Leny Yoro slipped in his own half and Adrien Truffert laid the ball onto Marcus Tavernier for a simple tap-in. In the second half, Matheus Cunha was thrown on while Fernandes remained on the bench, but Evanilson beat goalkeeper Senne Lammens to a long ball and curled his shot into the net from a tight angle.
Player ratings
Goalkeeper: Senne Lammens - 4. Very positive when claiming corners and there was little he could do for either of the first two goals, but getting beaten to a long ball by Evanilson when miles out of his area compounded United's defeat.
Defence: Leny Yoro - 4. Made a vital interception at the back post to deny Evanilson an eighth-minute opener, but made a disastrous error when he slipped to allow Truffert to slide the ball for Tavernier to double the visitors' lead.
Harry Maguire - 4. Today's captain left his defence completely unorganised when Rayan found himself in acres of space at the back post to score from a wide free-kick.
Ayden Heaven - 3. Very lucky that Evanilson jumped out of a tackle when Heaven went flying in with two feet. His punishment came seconds later when Rayan fired home from the resulting free-kick. Looked utterly petrified as the game went on.
Diogo Dalot - 5. Quite often the spare man on the left, but failed to take advantage and looked isolated.
Midfield and attack struggles
Midfield: Andrey Santos - 2. Spent the majority of the match walking a tightrope after a silly yellow card in the first half. Could not get close to Bournemouth's dangermen, struggled in possession and was a major net negative. His worst performance in a United shirt.
Carlos Baleba - 6. The best of a bad bunch in midfield, and the £70million man is still working his way back to full fitness, but much more is needed.
Youri Tielemans - 5. Tasked with becoming United's creator-in-chief in the absence of Fernandes but failed to get to grips with the game and got hooked at half-time for Matheus Cunha.
Attack: Amad - 4. Needed to be United's dynamic spark, with a lack of pace in the team outside of Amad, but never really got into the game.
Bryan Mbeumo - 6. The only player with a Premier League goal for United to start and nearly added to his tally moments after Rayan's opener, but Djordje Petrovic saved well from close range.
Mason Mount - 3. Completely ineffective on the left and you fear Mount is starting to run out of chances at United now. Brought into the number 10 role for the second half but didn't fare any better when central.
Substitutes fail to change the game
Substitutes: Matheus Cunha (45') - 6. Took up more responsibility than any other United forward when he emerged at half-time, but couldn't make the difference.
Lisandro Martinez (65') - 5. Only seconds after coming off the bench was Martinez winging to the referee that he had been fouled when Rayan completely left him for dead inside the box before missing the target.
Joshua Zirkzee (73') - 6. Too little, too late. Striker thrown on when 3-0 down when he probably should have started after a goal at Como in midweek.
Shea Lacey (78') - 6. A good cross late on after beating his man, but his game will most be remembered for coming on in the final substitution window while Fernandes was left to sit on the bench.
