Man Utd eye January striker move after Sesko injury

Manchester United are reportedly considering signing a new centre-forward in January following Benjamin Sesko's injury, with Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin identified as a possible option.

Sesko has not appeared for United since their Carabao Cup fixture against Brighton on September 16, after experiencing discomfort in his shin following the match. The club then started evaluating the optimal approach for his recovery at Carrington.

Sesko sidelined until January

He is now anticipated to remain sidelined until at least January. The striker also missed the concluding three fixtures of last season with a shin problem before being absent throughout pre-season as he continued his rehabilitation.

United now confront the likelihood of being without a natural centre-forward for at least the coming three months, with the club consulting specialists to establish the most appropriate treatment programme for Sesko.

Carrick provides injury update

Speaking before United's encounter with Como last week, Michael Carrick offered an update on Sesko's injury status, saying: "We're hoping soon that we have a clear picture. I'm not trying to delay it, hopefully by the end of the week we will have something clearer. There has been some work going on."

When Sesko sustained a shin injury last season, United chose rest over surgery to facilitate his recovery. A comparable conversation occurred after the striker felt discomfort in the same area last month.

Calvert-Lewin on United's radar

United are currently considering their options ahead of the January transfer window, which begins on New Year's Day. According to The Athletic, Calvert-Lewin is amongst the names under consideration, having been on the club's shortlist for some time.

United's recruitment team are said to be evaluating whether a deal could be negotiated when the window opens. However, the chances of a transfer are thought to be slim, especially given the England international's significance to Leeds United this season.

Calvert-Lewin has netted four goals in eight Premier League outings this campaign, and Leeds are believed to be eager to tie him down to a new long-term contract. The striker only joined Elland Road on a free transfer from Everton in the summer of 2025, penning a three-year deal that expires in 2028.
