Man Utd contact Howe and Nagelsmann as Carrick faces sack

Manchester United's leadership has already contacted two managers as they weigh up sacking Michael Carrick, according to reports. Carrick's future is in serious doubt following Sunday's defeat to Bournemouth, which left United without a victory in eight matches in all competitions.

Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox were both seen arriving at Carrington on Monday morning, as reported by The Sun. They are believed to be holding emergency talks over whether to relieve Carrick of his duties after the Bournemouth loss.

Contact Made With Potential Replacements

The report adds that United executives have already reached out to Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann to gauge their interest in taking over at Old Trafford. It has been widely reported that Howe is favoured by Wilcox, who values his Premier League experience with Bournemouth and Newcastle.

However, head of recruitment Christopher Vivell is said to prefer appointing Nagelsmann, who has been out of work since leaving the Germany job in the summer.

Carrick's Future Uncertain

While United are leaning towards sacking Carrick, they have yet to agree a compensation package with his representatives. The under-fire boss was applauded by supporters after the Bournemouth defeat and admitted afterwards that he was unsure what the future held.

"It wasn't a farewell from me," Carrick told Sky Sports. "I've got mixed emotions. I'm feeling it for my players, they're going through a tough spell. Some of it we can help, some of it the situation unravels and the boys are feeling it at the moment."

"To have that connection with the supporters is mixed emotions, it'll take a bit of time to digest, but I certainly appreciate their support. The situation is where we are, and we haven't had results or performances that have been good enough."

Carrick added: "It's a tough situation, there's no hiding from it. What it looks like and what's next I really don't know. I will always do my best for the football club and I won't change that now. I love what I do and I feel the responsibility, we'll have to wait and see."

Asked if he was expecting to be sacked, Carrick replied: "I am not expecting anything. I will always do what is best for the football club. If I had the answers I would not have let it happen. I have tried to do everything I can to not be in this situation."
