Manchester United were denied a second win of the Premier League season as Dominic Solanke struck late on to secure Tottenham a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
United were poor in the first half and it was only through poor Tottenham finishing that they got to the break without conceding. Dominic Solanke, Conor Gallagher, Mohammed Kudus and Savio all wasted glorious chances to give Roberto De Zerbi's side the lead.
It started to feel inevitable that they would be made to pay the price and so it proved when Mbeumo finished superbly to give United the lead. Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for a clash with Luke Shaw and United looked to be on their way to three points before Solanke scored late on to make it 1-1.
United player ratings
Senne Lammens: Kicking was as poor as it's ever been and nearly played United into trouble on a couple of occasions, but did make good saves to deny Solanke and Gallagher. 6
Leny Yoro: Not perfect and had the odd shaky moment, including hooking a clearance back into the danger zone, but a couple of vital last-ditch tackles and he battled hard. 6
Harry Maguire: Looked leggy and slow in the early stages, never more so than when Gallagher just strode away from him near the centre circle. 6
Lisandro Martinez: Tottenham found space around him a little too easily early on and habit of pulling wide for a pass could have been costly given how often United gave the ball away. Far too weak as Solanke got the better of him to head home. 5
Luke Shaw: Struggled early on against Kudus but did settle into the game as it went on and defended well against Savio. Booked for his response to Bentancur's challenge. 7
Kobbie Mainoo: Must feel like he's back in a Ten Hag midfield with fires to put out all over the place. Not at his best but needs a run of games alongside Baleba. 7
Youri Tielemans: Looked well off the pace and struggled in a midfield battle that left United constantly outnumbered. No doubting his technical class, but this set-up is not allowing that to come to the fore. 5
Amad: Worked hard on his first involvement this season and had a couple of moments on the break but looked rusty and that is entirely understandable. 6
Bruno Fernandes: Looked half-fit at times, which is probably not far from the truth. Took him a long time to get into the game and struggled to make a telling impact in the final third. 5
Matheus Cunha: Back on the left and pretty peripheral for large parts of the game, but fed Mbeumo for the goal after some good footwork out wide. 6
Bryan Mbeumo: Started through the middle and led one positive counterattack, but was starved of service for so much of the game. When it did come, he took his chance brilliantly. 7
Substitutes
Diogo Dalot: Surprise to see him on the bench but was fine when he came on. Offered a bit more width than Yoro. 6
Carlos Baleba: Made an impact with his first touch and can see he will bring energy to this team. Calm on the ball under pressure. 7
Joshua Zirkzee: The odd cute touch but never really threatened in the final third, which is where he needs to deliver more. 6
Subs not used: Darlow, Heaven, Mount, Santos, Lacey, Rashford
