Manchester United were held by ten-man Tottenham in a tempestuous 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo struck what he thought was the winner in the second half in an encounter that the visitors had dominated for large spells, and Roberto De Zerbi’s side should have been two or three goals up by the interval.
Spurs dominate but fail to convert
Dominic Solanke spurned two chances, while Mohammed Kudus missed a glaring opportunity in the first half that the Premier League’s bottom club had the better of. But they were en route to yet another defeat - their 49th in a row after conceding first - to Mbeumo’s strike, as the Cameroonian forward arrowed into the far corner.
Red card and late rescue
Rodrigo Bentancur, a second-half substitute, saw red after a headbutt on Luke Shaw, following a rash challenge on the left-back by the Uruguayan. However, late in the day, Solanke turned from villain to hero in the dying embers as he nodded home past Senne Lammens in second-half stoppage time to salvage a point and haul Spurs off the bottom of the table.
