Jaydan Kamason made a strong impression after coming off the bench for Manchester United against Rosenborg on Friday, recording two assists in the second half.
Performance and ambition
The 19-year-old right-back was introduced at half-time at the Lerkendal Stadion and sent two accurate crosses into the box from the flank. Michael Carrick said he was "delighted" with the performances of United's young players after the win.
Kamason had a brilliant 2024/25 campaign, consistently providing quality from right-back in attack and defence, but two injuries disrupted his progress last season. Now back to full fitness, he is targeting a first-team breakthrough.
"Good, thank you," Kamason said when asked how he felt after setting up two goals. "It was good to get the assists, obviously, but just good to play for minutes and fitness. I could have been sharper at times, but I'm happy with the two assists."
He continued: "Last season, I unfortunately had two injuries, but hopefully this season will be more positive. I'm just trying to stay fit now and show my ability on the pitch."
When asked about targeting a first-team breakthrough, he said: "Yeah, hopefully. I'm always trying to aspire to get to that level. If I need a few loans or whatever, we'll have to see, but obviously, I'm trying to get to that top level, and that's Man United. You just have to be ambitious."
Extra work and academy link
A United coach said Kamason had "big potential" after his youth goal at the Emirates last year. The youngster puts in extra work after training sessions to improve his game, particularly with low crosses. "I always do extra bits on that," he said. "Especially with the low crosses, because the low crosses are very effective. But it is just about getting into those positions. Once you get into those positions, you have the chance to get it into the box. That's what I want. It's just timing my movement, getting into those positions, then once I get in there, I just know what to do."
United's academy players have been boosted by Travis Binnion's presence in Carrick's backroom staff. Binnion was formerly Under-21 manager, but stepped up to help the first team in January after Ruben Amorim's sacking. "Travis is a top person and top coach," said Kamason. "It is good to have him around the first team because obviously he knows all the academy lads. He's a great link between the academy and the first team, so it is good to have him around, and hopefully he can continue to help me."
