Manchester United are closing in on another transfer this summer after Middlesbrough opened talks for goalkeeper Radek Vitek, according to reports.
Vitek's future away from Old Trafford
The 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper has been pushing for a move after a successful loan at Bristol City last season, where he made 41 Championship appearances. With Senne Lammens established as United's first choice and Karl Darlow also on the books, Vitek's path to the starting XI appears blocked.
Last weekend, after a defeat to Wrexham, Vitek publicly expressed his desire to leave: "I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to be, hopefully, number one, so we will see. We will see what is going to happen. At the moment, I am still here, but we will see. I hope so. I hope there will be some interest. I think you will know when things are more concrete."
Middlesbrough interest and financial impact
Middlesbrough have now entered negotiations with United for a permanent deal, though talks are in their infancy and several clubs remain interested. A permanent transfer would generate 'pure profit' for United, which is crucial under Financial Fair Play rules.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe had earlier noted the financial importance of the academy, saying last October: "You need the academy to be producing talent all the time. It helps you financially." Vitek's departure would be seen as a positive outcome for all parties, with United head coach Michael Carrick praising his performance against Rosenborg earlier this week.
