Man United learn Sesko injury timeline as transfer plan emerges

Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko may not play again in 2027 after a frustrating shin injury that has troubled him for the last six months. The £73.7m signing has also dealt with a separate fitness issue over the past five weeks, and United are growing concerned about a lengthy absence.

Injury fears and potential four-month layoff

Manager Michael Carrick's side have been monitoring Sesko's condition with regular fitness checks, but there are fears he could be out for as long as four months, according to the Sun. That would keep him sidelined until February, missing a significant number of matches.

United did not pursue a back-up striker in the summer and have relied on Joshua Zirkzee, who they tried to sell. The Dutchman may now be needed more as the club could be forced to find a solution in the January transfer window.

Carrick promises clearer update

A more specific timeframe for Sesko's return is expected soon. Carrick said: "We're hoping really soon that we'll have a clear picture. I'm not trying to delay it. Hopefully next time we speak.

"Maybe not tomorrow, but by the end of the week, we'll have something a little bit clearer. There's a bit of work going on at the moment, so we'll see what comes out of that."

Sesko's season so far

Last season, Sesko scored 12 goals after his move from RB Leipzig. This season, he has contributed two goals in six appearances in all competitions, including a header in the 2-2 draw with Everton and a strike in the 4-0 win over Sabah.

He has also competed with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a place at the tip of United's attack.

Striker options and transfer links

United have few out-and-out centre forwards beyond Sesko. Rasmus Hojlund joined Napoli this summer after the Italian side's Champions League qualification triggered an obligation to sign him for £38m, having spent last season on loan.

Zirkzee has never been considered a true striker, infamously calling himself a "number 9.5" due to his attributes suiting both the No. 10 and No. 9 positions. Last week, United were linked with a move for ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott, who has been enjoying an outstanding campaign with Real Betis.
