Manchester United could be without as many as ten senior players for Wednesday's historic Champions League clash against Como, with Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez among those missing from Tuesday morning's training session at Carrington.
The match at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides, and United will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of the league phase.
Training absentees raise doubts
Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Martinez and Rashford were all absent from the session, sparking fears they will not be included in the travelling squad. Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven missed Saturday's 1-1 draw with Leeds, while Martinez was replaced at half-time after picking up a thigh injury.
Rashford was an unused substitute at Elland Road, and head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed the England international has been carrying a knock recently.
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” Carrick said.
Long-term absentees and suspension
As expected, long-term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte were also missing, along with third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Leny Yoro is guaranteed to sit out after being sent off in the Spanish capital.
Carrick will provide a full team news update at his news conference on Tuesday evening at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, where he will be joined by a United player.
