Man United dressing room reaction to Chelsea defeat

Bryan Mbeumo believes Manchester United can take positives from their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, despite the team extending their winless run to nine games.

United created several first-half chances but failed to convert, with Amad, Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes all guilty of missing opportunities. Chelsea took the lead in the second half through Morgan Rogers, and the match turned further when Lisandro Martinez was sent off for a challenge on Wesley Fofana, allowing Cole Palmer to score from the resulting penalty.

Mbeumo on the positives

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, Mbeumo reflected on the performance and highlighted the number of chances United created as a significant positive, even though they were missed.

“A lot of disappointment. I think we’ve done a lot of right things, especially in the first half, especially when we could have been up 1-0 or 2-0,” he said.

“The first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. I think the last games we didn’t create a lot but obviously they are a good team with quality.”

Mentality and next steps

Asked whether United were suffering from a lack of confidence after such a long period without a win in any competition, Mbeumo replied: “I think every goal hurts. With what we’ve shown today I think we can really be, I won’t say proud, but I think the mentality was there. Everyone worked really hard and we still have to modify some bits on the training ground, work even harder, and we have two very important games [coming up].”

The defeat leaves manager Michael Carrick to reflect on the chances his side missed, with United now preparing for their next fixtures.
