Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has conceded that Chelsea are 'almost unstoppable' after his side's 2-0 victory over Sunderland left them eight points adrift of the Premier League leaders. Chelsea, who face West Ham on Wednesday night, have won 13 consecutive league matches and show no signs of slowing down.
Guardiola acknowledged the size of the gap, saying: 'It's a pity that the distance between Chelsea is so big, but that's true. We started the season with 10 games winning, but our game was not like today.' Despite City's recent improvement in form, the Spaniard remains realistic about their title chances.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss stressed the importance of consistency in the run-in, adding: 'In the Premier League, in the cup, in the Champions League. The players know, we know, the club knows, if we are not able to win the next game we will be out.'
City's win over Sunderland moved them back into third place, but Guardiola's comments reflect the daunting task facing his team as they trail Chelsea by a significant margin with just over a third of the season remaining.
