Manchester City avoided Liverpool supporters by taking an alternative route into Anfield ahead of their clash on Sunday afternoon. City return to action for the first time today since an independent commission concluded they had "clearly intended to circumvent Premier League rules" by inflating revenue and hiding costs through a series of "sham" commercial deals over a nine-season period.
Appeal Against Verdict
The Etihad club have already appealed against the verdict and claimed in a statement that the commission's ruling contained "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe". Enzo Maresca and his side were expected to receive a hostile welcome when they made their way to Anfield, but they actually managed to avoid many of the thousands of Reds supporters waiting for their arrival by taking an alternative route.
Alternative Route Into Anfield
Rather than head through the usual main entrance for coaches, City appeared to go down Anfield Road before heading in via a back entrance.
