Man City 4-1 Palace: Haaland and Cherki doubles send City top

Manchester City thumped Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park with Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki both scoring twice. Enzo Maresca's team moved to the top of the Premier League with a convincing performance and win.

Haaland opens the scoring

Haaland opened the scoring when he expertly headed home following a cross from Antoine Semenyo. City took that lead into the second half and Rayan Cherki extended the advantage with a brilliant dribble and finish.

Palace fight back but City respond

Yeremy Pino hit back instantly for Palace with a free-kick that went in off the unlucky Gianluigi Donnarumma but Cherki replied in kind as he fired in his second of the night to restore City's two-goal advantage. Haaland added his second in the final minutes as Phil Foden picked up his second assist.

Player ratings from the Manchester Evening News

Donnarumma: A few tidy saves when Palace threatened, some good and bad defending set-pieces, and unfortunate with the Palace goal. 6

Khusanov: Uses his pace well to get City out of some tricky spots but was also a little careless going forward on the ball. 6

Dias: Improved on last week as he looked more secure at the back and seemed to enjoy playing against Strand Larsen. 7

Guehi: Very good in a more familiar role, reading the play brilliantly to cut out Palace threats before they could get close to the box. 8

Gvardiol: Spent large chunks of the game near the Palace box and worked well with Semenyo in the final third. 7

Anderson: His best game yet in his early days at City, cutting out danger, passing City down the pitch and not being afraid to shoot. 8

O'Reilly: A bit of a free role in midfield floating between lines as he saw fit and he was involved in some excellent bits of play. 7

Cherki: Some early frustration and a hasty booking before he took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half. 9

Foden: One bad miss in the first half and one very bad miss. Picked up an assist for Cherki and one for Haaland but still could be stronger. 6

Semenyo: Enjoyed himself on the left wing driving at his defender and creating the opening goal. 7

Haaland: One excellent header to open the scoring and then a thumping finish to round off a resounding win. 8
