Ruben Amorim has reportedly agreed a deal in principle to take over as Liverpool manager next season, according to Sky Germany. The Sporting boss is the frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp, who is leaving Anfield at the end of the campaign.
The 39-year-old previously turned down four Premier League jobs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Aston Villa. He was linked with Villa in 2022 but opted to stay at Sporting while they were in the Champions League, and was also approached by Chelsea and Spurs last summer before publicly ruling himself out.
After Sporting's 2-1 win over Benfica on Saturday, Amorim refused to guarantee his future, stating: 'No, I can't guarantee [I'll stay]. I gave my word and I can't go back on it. If we don't win titles, I'll leave Sporting. It was clear from the start, it was the bet I passed on to the players. We have to win titles.'
Liverpool are now in talks with Sporting over Amorim's release clause. The Portuguese manager led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in 2021 and they currently sit four points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga.
