Macclesfield FC forward Ethan McLeod has died in a car accident on the M1. The 21-year-old was travelling back from the club's National League North match against Bedford Town on Tuesday night when the incident occurred near junction 15.
The club released a statement saying: 'It is with the heaviest of hearts and an overwhelming sense of surrealism that Macclesfield FC can confirm the passing of 21-year-old forward Ethan McLeod. Travelling back from Bedford Town last night, Ethan was involved in a car accident on the M1 which tragically took his life.'
McLeod had joined Macclesfield this summer after a decade in the Wolves academy. He made his debut in September against Chorley and scored two goals in four appearances. Wolves paid tribute on social media and announced a minute's silence before Saturday's Premier League match against Brentford.
