Liverpool have officially completed the signing of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for an initial £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons. The 20-year-old centre-back, who agreed the move in January, has fully recovered from shoulder surgery and will be available for pre-season.
Jacquet suffered a season-ending shoulder injury shortly after his transfer was confirmed on deadline day. He underwent surgery a few weeks later and has since been working on an individual training plan. The defender is now ready to join his new teammates at the AXA Training Centre.
The Frenchman has signed a five-year contract with an option for a sixth. He will compete for a starting spot alongside Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni, and club captain Virgil van Dijk, who is expected to feature in the US tour after the Netherlands' World Cup exit.
Jacquet's arrival coincides with the departure of Ibrahima Konate, who left Liverpool as a free agent to join Real Madrid. The Reds had been unable to agree a new deal with the France international, who spent nearly two years in negotiations.
Liverpool believe they have secured two of the finest young defenders from France and Italy, with Jacquet joining 11 months after Leoni's £30m move from Parma. Leoni is recovering from an ACL injury sustained on his debut, and an update on his progress is expected soon.
