Fans Predict New Romance for Todd Grimshaw
Coronation Street viewers are expressing anger after spotting what they believe are 'clues' pointing to a potential romance between Todd Grimshaw (played by Gareth Pierce) and Sean Tully (Antony Cotton). Todd has endured a traumatic storyline involving abuse at the hands of his boyfriend Theo, and fans are unhappy about the direction the show may be taking.
Todd's Abusive Relationship with Theo
Todd, a character on the ITV soap since 2001, has been central to a harrowing plot exploring domestic abuse in a same-sex partnership. Over the past year, Todd's boyfriend Theo (James Cartwright) manipulated and abused him, controlling every aspect of his life. In April, Theo was murdered after his abuse was exposed, sparking a whodunnit storyline. Suspects included Todd, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Gary Windass (Mikey North), and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson). It was eventually revealed that Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) killed Theo by striking him with a metal pole on scaffolding, causing him to fall to his death.
Fan Reactions to Romance Clues
Since moving back in with George and Christina, Todd has expressed feeling 'so alone', while Sean has complained about being single, saying, 'Looks like it'll just be a microwave meal for one' and 'We won't always be going home to an empty bed'. Fans on X have reacted strongly to these comments. One wrote: 'They had better not be planning some fling between Todd & Sean. We keep being told they're both very lonely, but they were never a match & Todd is still traumatised. Plus, I won't forgive Sean for ignoring Todd when he heard about Theo's abuse - not a kind word or a visit.' Another added: 'I'm worried they might. As they're both 'so lonely', and perhaps get a bit drunk? Sean used to have a thing for Todd back in the day & Todd might be lured in b/c he's known Sean for years and feels safe with him after Theo.' A third penned: 'You are right, they could be drawn back to each other but I really don't want this to happen. Leave their past relationship in the past please Corrie. I'm not sure which direction they are going to take Sean currently, but hope it's not this.'
