Bayern Munich are reportedly exploring a move for Liverpool's teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha this summer. The Bundesliga champions have identified the 17-year-old winger as an ideal addition to their left flank, with manager Vincent Kompany driving the pursuit. However, according to The Athletic, no formal contact has yet been made between the two clubs.
Ngumoha signed his first professional contract in September, tying him to Anfield until June 2028. Liverpool have no intention of selling one of their brightest prospects, especially after a difficult campaign where Ngumoha was a rare bright spot. The England youth international made 29 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Newcastle.
The Reds' decision not to replace Luis Diaz, who was sold to Bayern last year, was partly influenced by Ngumoha's emergence. The teenager has become a fan favourite at Anfield; former manager Arne Slot was booed when he substituted Ngumoha during a draw with Chelsea. Ngumoha is currently training with England's senior squad in Florida ahead of the World Cup.
Liverpool's transfer and retention strategy will be shaped by new head coach Andoni Iraola, who has replaced the departed Mohamed Salah. The club has identified RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande as a top target to bolster their attack. Meanwhile, Bayern already boast Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise in their forward line and see Ngumoha as a long-term asset.
The Bavarians have a history of pursuing English talent, having previously made a strong play for Callum Hudson-Odoi during his Chelsea days. Whether they can prise Ngumoha away from Liverpool remains to be seen, but the Reds are determined to hold on to their starlet.
