Liverpool Plan Move for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi

Liverpool are reportedly plotting a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, aiming to capitalise on Newcastle United's failed attempts to sign the England international. The 24-year-old has been a key target for Newcastle, who have had three bids rejected, with Palace holding out for a £70 million fee.

Palace's resolve to keep Guehi has strengthened after selling Joachim Andersen to Fulham and losing summer signing Chadi Riad to a knee injury. Although the Eagles have agreed a €18 million (£15.2m) deal for Wolfsburg's Maxence Lacroix, he is seen as a replacement for Andersen, not Guehi.

Guehi has started all three of Palace's Premier League matches this season and captained the side, appearing content to stay. However, with just two years left on his contract, Palace may be forced to lower their asking price if he does not sign an extension, opening the door for Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly keen to bolster his defence, having lost Joel Matip in the summer. With Virgil van Dijk also in the final year of his contract, the Reds are expected to be in the market for a centre-back. Other clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona, have also expressed interest in Guehi.
