Liverpool Close In on £30m Deal for Georgia Euro 2024 Hero Mamardashvili

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who impressed at Euro 2024 for Georgia. The 23-year-old is seen as a long-term successor to Alisson Becker, but any move would likely see him loaned back to Valencia or another club for the upcoming season.

The Reds are exploring a £30m transfer for the shot-stopper, who made 37 La Liga appearances for Valencia last season. Mamardashvili played all four of Georgia's matches at Euro 2024, including a clean sheet against Portugal in a 2-0 group-stage win, before they were eliminated by eventual champions Spain in the last 16.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has yet to make his first signing since taking over, but has stressed the strength of his inherited squad. 'I think as a club like we are, we are always looking if we can strengthen the squad. But it's not so easy to strengthen the squad if you see both games today,' he said after a recent friendly win over Sevilla.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou praised Mamardashvili after Georgia's victory over Portugal, saying: 'They have an outstanding goalkeeper in Mamardashvili. He is one that everyone is tracking. He has had a strong season at Valencia and when you have a strong goalkeeper, who is in form, it keeps you in games.'
