Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is reportedly keen on a return to Anfield, three years after leaving the club. The Uruguayan joined Al-Hilal for £46.3million in the summer of 2025 but has endured a difficult spell in Saudi Arabia, culminating in his removal from the squad in February following the arrival of Karim Benzema.
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Nunez would like to make a Merseyside comeback. However, the report also indicates that Chelsea, now managed by Xabi Alonso, have shown interest, alongside Barcelona and Newcastle United. Nunez scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool, but started only eight Premier League games during their title-winning campaign.
Meanwhile, hopes that Mohamed Salah might reverse his decision to leave Liverpool have been dashed. Former Reds defender Dejan Lovren told WinWin: 'No, it's over. Mo has a big personality too. I don't know, if they hadn't announced all of that, all the details of leaving, saying thank you and goodbye and saying goodbye, maybe yes, but now it's difficult.'
Lovren added that Salah would have stayed had he known Arne Slot would be leaving sooner: 'Yes, he would have stayed 100 per cent. Believe me, he would have stayed 100 per cent, I know that. But the timing was bad.' The Croatian also insisted that Liverpool still need Salah, saying: 'Only a fool would say we no longer need him.'
Salah left Liverpool this summer after nine years at the club, following a reportedly strained relationship with former manager Slot. The Egyptian has yet to confirm his next destination.
