Liverpool Sign Alexander Isak For £125m On Deadline Day

Liverpool have agreed a British-record £125 million deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day. The Sweden international is set to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a six-year contract worth £300,000 per week.

The move ends a protracted transfer saga that saw Isak down tools at Newcastle to force a move to the Premier League champions. Liverpool had a £110m bid rejected on 1 August, but after Isak's strike and public statements, coupled with Newcastle's £70m signing of Nick Woltemade, the Reds submitted a higher offer on Sunday night.

Newcastle accepted a fixed fee of £125m with no add-ons, though a loyalty payment means the deal is effectively worth £130m to the Magpies. The sum falls short of Newcastle's £150m valuation but still sets a new British transfer record.

The Isak deal takes Liverpool's total summer spending over £440m, following their £100m plus £16m in add-ons for Florian Wirtz in June. The club have recouped more than £210m in player sales. Liverpool could raise further funds by selling Harvey Elliott and Joe Gomez, with Aston Villa interested in Elliott and Milan making a €15m offer for Gomez.
