Victor Munoz's rocket earned Liverpool a point in a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield. The Reds remain without a win in the Premier League this season.
Forest strike first
Forest took the lead in the 24th minute when Igor Jesus latched onto a long ball, which eventually fell to Dan Ndoye, who finished calmly past Alisson. Florian Wirtz thought he had restored parity, but Jeremie Frimpong was adjudged to be offside in the build-up to the goal.
Second-half drama
Alexander Isak equalised after an hour following an inspired turn from Cody Gakpo on the edge of the box, before teeing up his striker for a simple tap-in. However, some quick thinking from Forest new boy Liam Delap saw a quick throw to Neco Williams inside the box and the Welshman was brought down by Alisson. Morgan Gibbs-White made no mistake from the penalty spot.
A sharp strike from Munoz, albeit with a flight deflection, caused Anfield to erupt when he brought Wirtz's ball under his spell and fired a snap shot into the roof of the net.
Liverpool player ratings (4-2-3-1)
Alisson - 6: Made a brilliant save on the stroke of half-time to keep Liverpool from going 2-0 down, tipping X's shot onto the crossbar from close range. But his day will be remembered for a foul on Williams, having felt compelled to rush out on goal but was beaten to the ball by the wing-back.
Jeremie Frimpong - 4: Got into promising positions but struggled to take advantage. Fortunate Ndoye could not take advantage after getting beaten twice at the back post.
Jeremy Jacquet - 7: Two good blocks inside the opening 15 minutes to deny Igor Jesus. Liverpool's strongest performer in a weak defence today.
Virgil van Dijk - 5: His backline was all out of sorts for Ndoye's opener, having let Jesus take a touch from a long ball played from his goalkeeper, which eventually led to Ndoye having enough space to finish well inside the box. For the majority of the match Liverpool lacked inspiration and that needs to come from the captain. The backline were not organised in time to react to Delap's quick-thinking throw either, causing Forest's second.
Milos Kerkez - 5: Struggled to deal with Forest's right-hand side. Unsurprisingly was among the first players hooked by Andoni Iraola as Kostas Tsimikas was given a chance to push the Hungarian for a starting spot.
Midfield and attack
Alexis Mac Allister - 7: Preferred to Ryan Gravenberch and threaded a beautiful through ball for Gakpo in the seventh minute, but smart defending from Williams prevented a goal. A tidy performance.
Dominik Szoboszlai - 6: A rare quiet afternoon for Szoboszlai but he didn't do too much wrong. Moved to right-back in the second half.
Florian Wirtz - 7: Unlucky that Frimpong was offside for a first-half goal that was chalked off, as Wirtz took his finish with a ruthlessness that had been missing from his game.
Cody Gakpo - 7: Moved onto the right flank in an unusual role, on what may be his final Liverpool appearance amid interest from Tottenham, but if so will have provided a lasting memory. He rolled Williams with his body in a stunning turn between two Forest defenders and laid the ball on a plate for Isak to equalise after an hour.
Alexander Isak - 7: Looked completely devoid of confidence and a shadow of the striker who dominated defences at Newcastle before grabbing an equaliser in the second. He had just five touches of the ball in the first half and his seventh was tapping the ball home from Gakpo's cross. Hopefully that goal, just his fifth for the club, can spark an upward turn.
Victor Munoz - 8: The match-rescuer on a lively performance from the £35m signing. Munoz was sharp, if not a tad raw throughout, but announced himself to the Liverpool fans by slapping an effort into the top corner to claim a point. He operated on both flanks but picked the ball up on the right and powered an effort past Mats Selz, who had little chance at saving the thunderstrike.
Substitutes
Kostas Tsimikas (72') - 6: A composed cameo and he will hope to snatch a spot from Kerkez in the coming weeks.
Rio Ngumoha (72') - 6: Given another chance on his favoured left flank but saw little of the ball.
