Liverpool travel to Austria on Wednesday to face LASK in Matchday 2 of the Champions League league phase. The Reds are without forwards Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo as well as midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai for the trip.
Manager Andoni Iraola must balance his squad with Saturday's Premier League match at Brentford in mind. The ECHO's Liverpool writers have selected their preferred starting XIs for a game Liverpool need to win after Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Ian Doyle's team
Ian Doyle believes the Champions League is "probably the least important game of Liverpool's week" but still expects changes. He keeps Alisson Becker in goal, with Milos Kerkez at left-back and Virgil van Dijk at centre-back. Joe Gomez partners Van Dijk, and Jeremie Frimpong comes in at right-back.
In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister start at the base, with Florian Wirtz as the number 10. Rio Ngumoha starts on the right of the attack, Bradley Barcola on the left, and Lewis Koumas leads the line.
Doyle's XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Koumas.
Paul Gorst's team
Paul Gorst says this is an ideal time to use the squad, adding that LASK "should be straightforward enough" if Liverpool perform to their capabilities. He changes the back four, bringing in Frimpong, Kostas Tsimikas and Gomez, with Van Dijk keeping his place.
Gravenberch starts alongside Mac Allister, while Wirtz keeps his place and is "demanded to perform on the European stage." Ngumoha starts on the right, Barcola keeps his place on the left, and Koumas leads the line.
Gorst's XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Koumas.
Theo Squires's team
Theo Squires notes that Iraola does not have many options but would still make a couple of changes as Liverpool face nine games in 28 days. He rests Jeremy Jacquet, with Gomez coming in at centre-back alongside Van Dijk. No changes at full-back, with Kerkez's presence at the pre-match press conference suggesting he will start.
Gravenberch must start as he is suspended for the weekend. With Szoboszlai sidelined with a hamstring injury, Squires would rest Mac Allister for the weekend, bringing Trey Nyoni in for a full Champions League debut. Wirtz gets another chance to play his way into form, and Barcola retains his place.
Koumas keeps his place upfront, while Ngumoha earns a recall on his favoured left wing, with Barcola switching to the right and Victor Munoz dropping to the bench.
Squires's XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Araujo, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Nyoni; Barcola, Wirtz, Ngumoha; Koumas.
Mark Jones's team
Mark Jones says Liverpool's injuries and small squad limit the options for changes, but alterations must be made with Brentford away on Saturday. Alisson stays in goal, with Frimpong starting at right-back to build confidence. Jacquet, Van Dijk and Kerkez complete the back four.
Gravenberch starts in midfield, while Mac Allister stays in the side for at least an hour. Barcola and Wirtz start because they "have to get going eventually," and Ngumoha gets a berth on the wing opposite the Frenchman, with Koumas upfront.
Jones's XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Koumas.
