Newcastle United legend Nobby Solano has criticised Alexander Isak for tarnishing his legacy at the club by forcing a move to Liverpool. The Swedish striker completed a British record £125million transfer to Anfield on deadline day after going on strike.
Isak refused to join his teammates for pre-season and sat out Newcastle's first three matches of the campaign. He accused the club of breaking promises and declined to return to training after talks at his home.
Solano told Chronicle Live that Isak could have challenged Alan Shearer's record as the club's all-time top scorer. He said the striker's actions were insulting to Newcastle fans who had welcomed him when he joined from Real Sociedad in 2022.
The former Magpies winger also noted that Isak had three years remaining on his contract and the number nine shirt was available. He believes the 25-year-old prioritised financial gain over the club and supporters.
Alan Shearer also criticised Isak's behaviour, saying it was never right for a player to go on strike while under contract. The striker scored 23 Premier League goals last season before his departure.
