A team of Liverpool legends were held to a 2-2 draw by Borussia Dortmund greats in a charity match at Anfield on Saturday. The fixture, organised for the Liverpool FC Foundation, featured both Sir Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp in the home dugout, with emotions running high as the match remembered Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in the summer.
Steven Gerrard and Thiago Alcantara starred in midfield for the Reds. Liverpool took the lead when Thiago chipped Roman Weidenfeller, before Jay Spearing doubled the advantage with a stunning strike from outside the area. Dortmund responded after the break, with Mohamed Zidan slotting past Pepe Reina to halve the deficit.
The visitors equalised late on when Jan Koller stole in at the near post to power a header past Reina, levelling the score and silencing the Anfield crowd. Despite late chances, including a denied goal for Gerrard, the match ended in a draw.
Jay Spearing's strike was the pick of the goals, while Gerrard was substituted late on for Vladimir Smicer. The event raised funds for the Liverpool FC Foundation, which supports schools, families and young people in Merseyside.
