Liverpool Fans Wake Real Madrid With Fireworks Outside Hotel

Liverpool supporters set off fireworks outside Real Madrid's hotel in the early hours of Tuesday, just hours before the Champions League last-16 clash at Anfield. The incident occurred at around 12:55am near the INNSiDE Hotel on Old Hall Street, where the Spanish side are staying.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers attended the scene after reports of a group setting off fireworks in the docklands area. The display lasted over 30 seconds. It is illegal to let off fireworks in a public place in the UK.

This is not the first time Liverpool fans have used such tactics; they similarly disrupted Barcelona's stay before a 4-0 semi-final win in 2019. Real Madrid, the defending champions, have beaten Liverpool in the last two Champions League meetings, including the 2022 final.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted he watched that final for the first time since the match, describing it as 'proper torture'. He praised Madrid's composure, saying they remain unfazed when opponents create chances.
