Volker Struth, the German agent who previously represented Florian Wirtz, has revealed his desire to see the Liverpool star playing for Real Madrid. Struth attempted to engineer a move to the Bernabeu last summer before Wirtz ultimately joined Liverpool in a British record £116 million deal.
Speaking on a podcast, Struth recounted his efforts to convince Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to sign the 22-year-old. He even contacted then Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, urging him to take Wirtz to Madrid. However, Perez prioritised defensive reinforcements, signing Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Franco Mastantuono instead.
Wirtz has begun to find form at Anfield, scoring six goals and providing three assists in his last 14 appearances. He was forced to miss Sunday's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest after suffering a back injury in the warm-up. Manager Arne Slot said the issue is not serious and expects Wirtz to be available next week.
Struth admitted that the timing was not right for a Real Madrid move due to budget constraints, but reiterated his wish that Wirtz will one day play for the Spanish giants. The player is now directly represented by his father, Hans-Joachim, with Struth only involved in marketing.
