Liverpool are prepared to compete with Manchester City and Bayern Munich for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz. The Premier League champions have made contact with the 22-year-old's representatives, who have informed them that both City and Bayern are also interested.
Wirtz recently visited Manchester City's facilities with his parents, but Liverpool have also held meetings with the player and his family to express their interest. The German international is seen as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne at City.
It is expected that Wirtz will remain in Germany, either at Leverkusen or with Bayern Munich. However, if he decides to move to the Premier League, Liverpool are prepared to intensify their pursuit.
The cost of signing Wirtz is reported to be around £125m, which would break Liverpool's transfer record. Bayern may struggle to finance such a deal, potentially opening the door for an English club.
Leverkusen's managing director Fernando Carro expressed surprise at the rumours. Liverpool have spent only £10m on transfer fees since summer 2023, but with the Premier League title secured, they are expected to have funds available this summer. Head coach Arne Slot acknowledged that winning the league helps attract players.
