Liverpool extended their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Darwin Nunez doubled the lead before half-time, and substitute Cody Gakpo sealed the win with a late strike. Taiwo Awoniyi pulled one back for Forest, but it proved to be no more than a consolation.
Dominant first-half display
The home side controlled the opening period, with Salah converting a 23rd-minute penalty after a foul on Luis Diaz. Nunez then headed in a second from Andrew Robertson's cross just before the break, leaving Forest with a mountain to climb.
Forest improved after the interval, and Awoniyi gave them hope when he slotted home from a Brennan Johnson cutback in the 68th minute. However, Liverpool responded well and Gakpo, who had come on for Nunez, finished off a counter-attack in the 84th minute to restore the two-goal cushion.
Late drama and aftermath
There was late drama as Forest had a goal disallowed for offside in stoppage time, and Liverpool held on for the win. The result keeps Liverpool level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table, while Forest remain winless after four matches.
