Real Madrid are reportedly willing to reduce their £78 million asking price for Rodrygo in an effort to revive interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. The 24-year-old Brazilian winger has seen his playing time diminish under new manager Xabi Alonso, leading to speculation about his future at the Bernabeu.
Rodrygo lost his starting place towards the end of last season and played only 27 minutes during Real Madrid's five-match Club World Cup campaign. Alonso has hinted that the forward is not in his immediate plans, stating that decisions are made game by game and that the team needed other players in certain situations.
Arsenal and Liverpool had been the most interested clubs, but their stances have cooled. Liverpool recently signed Hugo Ekitike for £79 million and are now prioritising a move for Alexander Isak. Arsenal's interest is described as 'freezing' as they focus on a bid for Eberechi Eze. Bayern Munich also enquired but are concentrating on a deal for Luis Diaz.
With limited concrete interest, Real Madrid have accepted that their initial £78 million valuation may be too high. Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as a potential suitor, promising heavy investment thanks to an incoming Qatari investor. However, Rodrygo would be joining a team that finished 17th last season, just above the relegation zone.
Rodrygo faces increased competition at Madrid from new signing Franco Mastantuono, 17, and Arda Guler, 20, who both have impressed Alonso. Additionally, reports suggest that Rodrygo and Guler are disappointed with the expected decision to give Kylian Mbappe the No. 10 shirt following Luka Modric's departure.
