Jesse Lingard Nears Brazilian Move After Premier League Return Talks
Lingard Set for Brazil Move After Premier League Talks

Former Manchester United and England international Jesse Lingard appears poised to embark on a new footballing chapter in Brazil, with negotiations advancing for a move to top-flight side Remo. This development comes despite recent speculation linking the free agent with a return to the Premier League.

From South Korea to South America

Lingard, 33, has been without a club since departing FC Seoul in December 2024, following a two-year spell in South Korea's K League. During his time with FC Seoul, the attacker enjoyed a notable resurgence, netting 10 goals in 34 appearances and revitalising his career after leaving European football.

Premier League Interest Fades

In recent weeks, rumours had circulated that Lingard might make a comeback to English football, with the player reportedly holding discussions with interested parties from both England and Italy. As a free agent, he was eligible to sign outside the transfer window, fuelling hopes of a Premier League return. However, those prospects now seem to have dimmed significantly.

According to reports from Brazilian media outlet Globo, Lingard has received a formal contract offer from Remo, a club that earned promotion to Brazil's Serie A last season. The report indicates there is a good chance the winger will accept the proposal, which would tie him to the club until the conclusion of the Brazilian season.

Remo's Ambitious Pursuit

Remo's interest in Lingard marks a bold move for a club that was competing in Brazil's third division just two years ago. Currently, the team sits 16th in the league table after three matches, having secured two draws and suffered one defeat without a victory this campaign. Signing a player of Lingard's calibre represents a significant statement of intent as they aim to establish themselves in the top flight.

Lingard's Career Crossroads

Lingard's last appearance in the Premier League was in 2023 with Nottingham Forest, where he spent a single season after ending his long association with Manchester United. A product of the United academy, he made 385 senior appearances for the club, scoring 77 goals and becoming a fan favourite during his tenure.

Reflecting on his decision to move to South Korea, Lingard previously emphasised the importance of finding an environment where he felt valued. "When looking for my next club it felt important to go somewhere I was loved and appreciated," he explained, noting that FC Seoul's dedication in sending representatives to watch him train personally convinced him to embrace the new challenge.

"The idea of Korea grabbed me. Not just a different challenge, but a new environment and culture," Lingard added, highlighting his desire to step outside his comfort zone. Now, it seems he is ready for another adventurous move, this time to the vibrant football landscape of Brazil.

If the deal with Remo is finalised, it will underscore Lingard's ongoing commitment to pursuing unique football experiences late in his career, prioritising personal fulfilment and cultural exploration over a conventional return to familiar European leagues.
