Leeds fan critical after medical emergency before Man Utd game

A Leeds United supporter is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a medical emergency before Sunday's Premier League fixture against Manchester United at Elland Road.

The incident took place ahead of kick-off, with fellow fans and stadium staff rushing to help the stricken supporter. The individual was quickly taken away in an ambulance and remains under close observation in hospital.

Club Statement on Supporter's Condition

Leeds United issued an official statement on Monday confirming the news. The statement read: "Ahead of our Premier League fixture with Manchester United at Elland Road, there was a medical emergency involving a Leeds United supporter."

"Following a quick response from fellow supporters, stewards and medics, the individual was transferred to hospital via ambulance, where they now remain in a critical condition."

Gratitude and Well Wishes

The club added: "The club is grateful for the rapid action of our stewards and medical support team and appreciates the many notes of interest and support that have been sent in the past 24 hours."

"Everyone at Leeds United joins the broader community in sending our well wishes to the individual and their family at this difficult time."

Match Details and Manager Reaction

Leeds went into the game as favourites to claim all three points given their impressive form in the Premier League this season. However, they were left chasing the game when the visitors took the lead in the first half through Bryan Mbeumo, who latched onto a cross from Youri Tielemans and turned the ball home from close range.

Leeds equalised shortly after the break when Dominic Calvert-Lewin fired in following a corner, but neither side managed to find a winner before the final whistle.

Speaking afterwards, manager Daniel Farke said: "I wanted to win this game and my boys [did] as well, you could see this outside."

"We're even a bit disappointed we didn't win it. I think we were the better side, the dominant side. This lack of quality in the finishing and crossing was the only thing I could criticise. With a bit more quality in the final third I think we could have won it."
