Kompany dislocates shoulder in collapse; heart attack ruled out

Vincent Kompany dislocated his shoulder when he collapsed during a Bayern Munich training session five days ago, with doctors ruling out a heart attack or stroke as the cause.

The 40-year-old former Manchester City captain remains in hospital in Munich, where he was airlifted after the incident. His collapse occurred during training, and he has been absent from the touchline since Bayern's Champions League draw with Arsenal last week.

Medical investigations continue

Doctors have reportedly been investigating a potential brain issue amid Kompany's period of ill health. Bild reports that Kompany has also suffered seizures after falling, though the issue is not thought to be life-threatening. A heart attack and stroke have been ruled out, and he is not expected back in the dugout for several weeks as he continues his recovery.

Bayern's interim manager Aaron Danks said on Tuesday: "It looks like he's getting better every day. That's positive. But there is no major news regarding his diagnoses or his return to work."

Support from players and staff

Harry Kane, who claimed the Ballon d'Or with Kompany as his manager at the Allianz Arena, revealed he had been in contact with the Belgian before his historic night. Kane said: "He actually phoned me, phoned me bright and early at 9am (Monday). I was just out of bed thankfully, so I was able to answer it. But no, he just wanted to wish me all the best, good luck. I asked him how he was doing, he said he feels good, he feels like he's on the mend. I know he's the type of character who just wants to be back with the team already."

Kane added: "He wants to be out on the training field with us, on the bench with us. But it's important that he rests, you know? He's been going through a bit of a tough time with his health recently, and we can hopefully cover it, the staff can cover it. Obviously, he's not there, but, you know, it will be massive for me to go back to Munich and see him, all the staff, all my team-mates. I've spoken about how much this [award] is theirs as well as it is mine. So just to celebrate them a little bit will be special."

Visitors during hospital stay

While in hospital, Kompany is thought to have received a number of visitors, including the club's president Herbert Hainer, sporting director Max Eberl, and honorary president Uli Hoeness. Kompany's recovery continues, with no confirmed timeline for his return to coaching duties.
