Klopp's Agent Reveals Major Managerial Approaches Were Rejected

Jurgen Klopp, the esteemed former Liverpool manager, was the subject of significant interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea following his departure from Anfield in the summer of 2024. This revelation comes directly from his long-time agent, Marc Kosicke, who has provided a detailed account of the approaches made to his client.

Klopp, who stepped down after nearly nine years at Liverpool to take a sabbatical from management, has since assumed the role of global head of soccer for the Red Bull group. Despite this new position, Kosicke confirms that inquiries from top clubs have persisted, though Klopp remains uninterested in a return to the dugout.

National Team Opportunities and Club Rejections

According to Kosicke, before Klopp joined Red Bull, he had the opportunity to coach the national teams of the USA or England, following Gareth Southgate's departure. The agent also suggested that a role with the German national team was a possibility, had Julian Nagelsmann not already been in place.

"Jurgen could have coached the USA or England national teams," Kosicke stated. "Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn't already been there."

In addition to these international prospects, Kosicke disclosed that both Chelsea and Manchester United made formal inquiries about Klopp taking over as manager. However, Klopp had made it clear that he would not coach any other club in England, leading to his rejection of these offers.

"Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England," Kosicke explained. "These inquiries haven't stopped."

Klopp's Current Role and Future Prospects

Klopp has undergone what his agent describes as a "metamorphosis," shifting from a hands-on coaching role to broader management responsibilities with Red Bull. Kosicke emphasized that Klopp is currently very content in this new environment, though he left open the possibility of a future return to management.

"At the moment, I don't see that happening, because he's very happy with his new role and in this environment," Kosicke said. "Maybe at some point he'll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he's very, very happy."

Interestingly, while Kosicke claims Chelsea made an approach, this is being denied by the Stamford Bridge club. The agent also revealed that Bayern Munich came close to signing Klopp on two occasions: once in 2008 and again in 2019, though the timing was never right.

Klopp's Personal Reflections on Management

Speaking last month, Klopp himself reiterated his lack of intention to return to management, despite being linked with high-profile roles such as Real Madrid. He humorously referenced building a house with a trophy room, indicating he does not expect to add more silverware.

"I don't expect to change my mind, but I don't know," Klopp remarked. "It might sound arrogant, but I know I can coach a football team. But I don't need to do it until my last day."

This stance underscores Klopp's current satisfaction with his role at Red Bull, even as the football world continues to speculate about his future. The agent's statements provide a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes negotiations and decisions that shape the careers of top managers.
