Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior Set for King George VI Chase Clash at Kempton
King George VI Chase: Mullins Duo Headline Kempton Boxing Day

Racing fans are set for a festive treat as Kempton Park confirms excellent conditions for its blockbuster Boxing Day card, headlined by a thrilling rematch between the Willie Mullins-trained stars Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase.

Ground Conditions Perfect for Festive Showdown

Despite a dip in temperatures over the Christmas period, officials at both Kempton and Aintree have reported no significant concerns for their high-profile meetings on Thursday, 26 December 2025. Kempton's clerk of the course, Barney Clifford, described the going as "good, good to soft in places," adding that trainer Tony Martin had exercised a runner on the track and found the ground to be "lovely."

While a light frost is forecast overnight, with temperatures potentially dropping to minus one degree Celsius, the track has protective measures in place. "We've got take-offs and landings covered, and vulnerable areas," Clifford stated, expressing confidence that the meeting will proceed as planned for what he called a "phenomenal card."

Mullins Duo Poised for King George Rematch

The feature race promises a captivating contest, with Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior leading the charge. The pair are set to renew rivalry following their electrifying encounter in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase earlier in the season. Their presence guarantees a memorable renewal of the prestigious Christmas highlight.

Meanwhile, at Aintree, a stellar Grade One card is also scheduled, featuring the William Hill Formby Novices' Hurdle. Clerk of the course Sulekha Varma reported the ground as "good to soft, soft in places" with no rain expected. "We might get a grass frost tomorrow but nothing of concern," Varma said, anticipating a "really good day of racing."

Weather Holds Firm for Festive Racing

The nation may have missed out on a white Christmas, but the cold snap is not severe enough to threaten the day's sport. The easterly wind has brought a chill, but proactive course management at both venues has ensured the show will go on. This allows the focus to remain firmly on the track, where the clash between the two Mullins-trained chasers is set to be the centrepiece of a fantastic day of National Hunt racing across the UK.
