England captain Harry Kane has disclosed the five players forming the new leadership group under head coach Thomas Tuchel. The Bayern Munich striker confirmed that Jude Bellingham, Marc Guehi, Bukayo Saka, and Declan Rice join him in the core leadership team, replacing previous members Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire.
Kane spoke about the added responsibility Tuchel has placed on him, saying the German coach encourages him to deliver team talks and be a louder presence on the pitch and in the dressing room. 'He very much saw me as a big leader in the group, and someone who was going to help him in many ways,' Kane said, citing their strong relationship from his move to Bayern Munich.
The 31-year-old acknowledged the transition to newer leaders, stating: 'We have some newer leaders coming through, rather than some of the guys like Walks and Harry Maguire... We've got new ones like Marc and Jude and Bukayo, Dec obviously.' Kane added that his own good form helps him be more expressive and vocal in the changing room.
Kane also commented on Phil Foden's role, suggesting the Manchester City star could operate as a 'false nine' for England. 'I think clarity is the thing Phil probably needs,' Kane said. 'The boss has made it pretty clear he sees him as one of the false nines or as a No.10.' He praised Foden's sharpness in training and his determination to prove himself.
