Kai Rooney scored four goals as Manchester United's Under-18s cruised to a 6-0 victory away at Burnley on Tuesday. The 16-year-old son of Wayne Rooney continued his impressive start to the 2026/27 season, taking his tally to five goals and an assist in just three appearances from the right wing.
First-half opener and penalty
Kai opened the scoring after 22 minutes at the Clarets' training centre in Lancashire. Emmanuel Ziro clipped the ball toward Jaume Camacho, whose towering header rattled the upright. The ball bounced back to Kai, who struck it hard and low into the bottom right corner with his left foot before celebrating by sliding toward the corner flag on his knees.
Four minutes into the second half, he doubled the lead from the penalty spot after being brought down inside Callum Feeney's area by Tambwe Leonard.
Hat-trick and late goals
Kai completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute with a looping header from a corner delivered by Jay McEvoy. A fourth followed just three minutes later, as he again converted low into the bottom right corner from inside the area.
Camacho added a fifth with eight minutes left, pelting the ball into the top right corner, and Noah Ajayi made it 6-0 in the 84th minute.
Academy form offers bright spot
The result comes as a boost to United fans amid the first team's struggles. Michael Carrick's side have won just one of their opening eight Premier League matches and are winless in their last eight games across all competitions, leaving them 16th in the league, a single point from safety.
Camacho also impressed over the weekend, scoring four in Saturday's 6-3 win over Liverpool. His tally for the season now stands at five goals and three assists from six matches. Alongside Shea Lacey, Harry Amass and Jack and Tyler Fletcher, the academy's emerging talents offer further encouragement for supporters.
