Kai Rooney Shines with Four Goals in Manchester United Youth Triumph
Kai Rooney has continued his remarkable ascent through the Manchester United youth system by scoring four goals in a thrilling 6-4 victory over Norwich City's U16s. The match, which took place on Saturday, was a Premier League Cup semi-final clash that highlighted the 16-year-old's burgeoning talent.
Impressive Performance and Social Media Celebration
Following the game, Kai Rooney took to Instagram to share his joy with his 400,000 followers. He posted an image of himself holding the match ball, accompanied by the caption: 'PL cup semi final. 6-4 win against Norwich. Four goals.' Later, he shared another photo showing his No 7 shirt lying on the dressing room floor, symbolising his pride in the achievement.
This standout performance comes just days after reports emerged that Kai has been offered a new scholarship deal by Manchester United. The club is said to have proposed a £50,000-per-year contract, placing him among a group of 13 other promising youngsters, including Jacey Carrick, son of interim manager Michael Carrick.
Debuting at Old Trafford and Family Support
Kai Rooney made his debut at Old Trafford in late January, playing for the U18s against Derby County. The occasion was particularly special as he had visited the stadium hundreds of times to watch his father, Wayne Rooney, play. Darren Fletcher, a former teammate of Wayne, made the decision to include Kai, which led to chants of 'Rooney, Rooney' from the 2,000-strong crowd.
Watching from the stands were Kai's parents, Coleen and Wayne Rooney, alongside Michael Carrick. Carrick expressed his support, noting the importance of youth competitions and the experience of playing at Old Trafford under floodlights. He reflected on his own FA Youth Cup win with West Ham, emphasising how such moments shape young players.
Focusing on His Own Path in Football
Despite the inevitable comparisons to his legendary father, Kai Rooney has been vocal about carving out his own identity in football. In August, he stated, 'I'm my own person. I want to see how my career goes, obviously try to do the best I can and try to reach the biggest stages.' He added that he is focused on personal growth, avoiding external pressure, and working diligently month by month.
Kai joined Manchester United's academy at the age of 11 and has steadily progressed through the ranks. His recent performances, including the four-goal haul against Norwich, underscore his potential and dedication to making a name for himself in the sport, independent of his family legacy.
