Katie Price's husband, Lee Andrews, is reportedly behind bars in Dubai, but not for spying as initially claimed. The self-proclaimed businessman was arrested earlier this month, and Price initially told the public he was jailed on suspicion of espionage. However, sources indicate the detention relates to a private civil matter.
Andrews was due to appear on Good Morning Britain last week alongside his wife but failed to make his flight from Dubai. He sent a video claiming to be at Muscat International Airport, but it later emerged he was actually at Dubai International's Terminal Two. A day later, he was arrested and told Price he was being held in a van with his hands tied, though not handcuffed.
Price spoke to Andrews on May 27, after two weeks of uncertainty about his whereabouts. She described a one-minute phone call during which he allegedly claimed authorities in the United Arab Emirates thought he was a spy. 'It was very rushed, but he said the authorities out there thought he was a spy,' Price told The Sun.
However, reports now suggest Andrews is detained over a private civil matter, not spying. He is expected to be released on Monday after paying a four-figure fine. Prior to his arrest, Andrews had moved his belongings out of his rented property and briefly stayed with his father. His family and Price filed a missing persons report with the British embassy.
During the brief call, Price told Andrews he is the 'most hated man in Britain' and demanded he give a sit-down interview to explain the situation. 'Everyone thinks this is a scam,' she said. Price's sister Sophie expressed relief upon learning Andrews was alive, with Price acknowledging the ordeal had been 'a worry' and that she questioned whether he was dead or alive.
