Jaissle apologises to Newcastle fans after Coventry defeat
Jaissle apologises after Newcastle's 4-1 loss to Coventry

Matthias Jaissle has apologised to Newcastle United supporters following the team's 4-1 Premier League defeat at Coventry City. The German head coach admitted the performance fell short after the Magpies conceded early and late, despite pulling level through Sven Botman.

Second heavy away defeat

The loss marked Newcastle's second consecutive 4-1 defeat away from home, although Jaissle declined to compare the two matches. Some fans had already left the stadium by the time the players approached the away end to acknowledge those who remained.

Speaking to Chronicle Live, Jaissle said: "We can only apologise to the fans that took the journey. We need to analysis it clearly, especially in the box, at both ends. The desire and hunger to score, to finish the attacks, that was missing."

Key moments and lessons

The game turned when Coventry scored their second goal shortly after the interval, giving the home side control of the match. Jaissle reflected on the decisive period and the need for improvement in both penalty areas.

He said: "There's something we need to look at for sure. We need to win these games in the boxes. Defensively we need to improve. On the offensive we need to be more sharp."

Jaissle also acknowledged the team's response after falling behind, saying: "It's never nice to concede a goal but we had the approach after half time to come out and turn it around. The lads believed so we made the first goal and momentum was on our side.

"That's something also we need to learn that in a risk zone you cannot lose the ball. You cannot invite the opposition to score the third one, then it's going to be difficult.

"We're frustrated definitely. The lads as well in the dressing room, it's a feeling you don't want to have when you feel as though you should have won."
