Newcastle Issue Brief Statement After Alexander Isak's Record Move to Liverpool

Newcastle United have confirmed the sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British record transfer fee, but declined to offer a good luck message in a brief 37-word statement.

The deal, which Liverpool value at £125 million and Newcastle at £130 million, was completed in the final hours of the transfer window. Isak has now reported for Sweden duty ahead of World Cup qualifiers.

Newcastle’s statement read: 'Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee. The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.' It ended simply with 'Ends', omitting any good luck wishes.

The cold tone follows Isak’s refusal to play or train for Newcastle this summer. The striker, who joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022, has now completed his move to Anfield.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Isak said: 'I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.'

Isak added: 'I want to create history. I want to win trophies. That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.'
