Alexander Isak has returned to Liverpool training and is expected to be available for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The Swedish striker has been sidelined since December 20 with an ankle injury that required surgery.
Isak suffered a fibula fracture during Liverpool's 2-1 Premier League win at Tottenham, when he scored the opening goal before being hurt in a challenge by Micky van de Ven. He resumed team training last week, raising hopes of a return for the FA Cup tie at Manchester City, but was not included in the squad for that match.
Manager Arne Slot explained that Isak needed more training sessions before being ready for a competitive game. 'We came to the conclusion that it was better for him to have a few more sessions than only one or two and then immediately jump into a game like this,' Slot said. 'The situation is now that I hope he will be available for Wednesday.'
Isak was seen training during Liverpool's open session on Tuesday at the AXA Centre, suggesting he is on track to feature against PSG. The Reds travel to Paris later on Tuesday, with Slot due to address the media at 6:30pm BST.
Long-term absentees Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni remain out, while goalkeeper Alisson Becker is expected to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Giorgi Mamardashvili will continue in goal.
