Iraola: Wirtz Injury Doubt for Liverpool v Chelsea Cup Tie

Florian Wirtz is a doubt for Liverpool's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Chelsea on Wednesday after limping off in Sunday's 2-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion. Head coach Andoni Iraola is set to face the media at 12.30pm from the AXA Training Centre, where he is expected to provide an update on the German playmaker and other injured players.

Wirtz injury latest

Liverpool currently have seven players either doubtful or ruled out of the last-16 encounter with Chelsea. The latest addition to the treatment room is Wirtz, who was forced off during the victory over Brighton. According to the player himself, the issue is not serious.

Wirtz said: "I think it should be all right. It's not too bad. I don't know much yet, we have to check it but it won't be long."

Other absentees and team news

Iraola is also expected to be quizzed on a number of other Liverpool players carrying injuries, including Victor Munoz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong. A total of six players are known to be absent or doubtful: Szoboszlai, Munoz, Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike. The latter three are confirmed unavailable, while updates on the others may be provided.

Alonso's return to Anfield

The press conference is also set to cover the return of Xabi Alonso, Iraola's childhood friend and the 2005 Champions League-winning hero for Liverpool, who will visit his former club for the first time as Chelsea boss. The Reds are on a four-match winning run in all competitions and have won eight of their last 12 matches since Iraola's summer arrival, but may rotate the squad ahead of a Premier League clash with Arsenal at the weekend.
