Inter Miami appoint Kily Gonzalez as new head coach

Inter Miami have named Kily Gonzalez as their new head coach, the club announced on Thursday. The Argentine replaces Guillermo Hoyos, who was dismissed earlier this week after a run of poor results.

Gonzalez's background

Gonzalez, 51, is a former Argentina international who earned 16 caps as a player. He previously managed Rosario Central and Chilean side Colo-Colo, and most recently took charge of the Argentina under-20 national team.

He becomes the third permanent head coach at Inter Miami since Lionel Messi joined the club in July 2023, following Gerardo Martino and Hoyos.

Messi's reaction

Messi, who is under contract until the end of the 2026 season, has reportedly given his approval to the appointment. The club said Gonzalez will be officially introduced at a press conference on Friday.

Inter Miami currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with 10 games remaining in the regular season.
