England's football squad will be based at the Golfresort Weimarer Land in Germany for Euro 2024, a luxury venue chosen by manager Gareth Southgate for its top-tier facilities and seclusion. The resort, located about 30 minutes from Erfurt, features two 18-hole golf courses, a nine-hole course, two full-size football pitches, and a spa. Room rates typically start at £300 per night.
Southgate personally inspected the site last winter, even when the training pitches were snow-covered, and was impressed by the surfaces, gym, and equipment. The FA staff have gone to great lengths to ensure this base may be the best yet for a tournament, with UEFA's list of recommended venues not including Weimarer Land—England secured it ahead of other interested nations, including Germany.
The resort will be transformed for the team's stay, with two swimming pools, a fitness centre, a spa, and seven restaurants available. To help players feel at home, the FA will place family photos in rooms and use the same luxury bed linen and fragrances as at St George's Park. Southgate has also written personal notes to each player, continuing a tradition from the 2022 World Cup.
Unlike the 2006 World Cup in Baden-Baden, where players' partners attracted significant media attention, Weimarer Land is remote. Families may visit at certain points, but they are unlikely to stay nearby, ensuring a more focused environment. Southgate said: 'We want to be somewhere where we can be a bit on our own. We need that contrast of relaxation and areas where we can work.'
