Gelhardt's Late Winner Sends Hull Into Top Six After Dramatic Stoke Victory
Hull beat Stoke 2-1 with dramatic late winner

Hull City staged a remarkable second-half comeback to snatch a dramatic 2-1 victory away at Stoke City, with Joe Gelhardt's late winner firing the Tigers into the Championship's top six.

Stoke Dominate First Half

The home side looked set to cement their position in the automatic promotion spots after a dominant first-half display. Sorba Thomas broke the deadlock with a spectacular first-half strike, giving Mark Robins' side a deserved lead at the interval and leaving Hull staring at a potential third consecutive defeat.

Tigers Fight Back After Break

The visitors emerged from the break with renewed determination. The momentum shifted dramatically just two minutes into the second half when defender Semi Ajayi scored a controversial 47th-minute equaliser to level the match. As the game appeared to be heading for a draw, substitute Joe Gelhardt became the hero, scoring his ninth goal of the season deep into stoppage time to secure an unlikely three points for the travelling side.

The final whistle sparked an intense brawl between players from both teams, with the volatile atmosphere escalating further as a number of objects were thrown onto the pitch by frustrated home fans before order was eventually restored.

Elsewhere in the Championship

In other Championship action, Bristol City returned to the playoff places thanks to a 1-0 away win at Portsmouth. Anis Mehmeti's early goal proved sufficient for the victory, consigning hosts Pompey to the relegation zone after managing just one win in their last nine league fixtures.

Sheffield United climbed out of the bottom three following a tense 3-2 victory at Leicester, marking their third win in just six days. Chris Wilder's side raced into a stunning 3-0 half-time lead with goals from former Leicester striker Tom Cannon, Jairo Riedewald, and a superb Sydie Peck volley.

Leicester mounted a spirited second-half comeback, pulling goals back through Stephy Mavididi and a spectacular long-range strike from Jordan James, but they ultimately fell short, handing Wilder a satisfying victory against the club that rejected him for their managerial position last summer.

On Friday, Oxford United shocked in-form Ipswich with a 2-1 victory, their first league win in six matches. Substitute Przemyslaw Placheta struck a superb 77th-minute winner after Leif Davis had cancelled out Mark Harris's opener for the U's.
