The draw for the league phase of this season's Champions League takes place today, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United set to discover their fates.
Manchester City and Aston Villa complete the Premier League's representation at this stage of Europe's elite club competition, as they all aim to dethrone Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG secured back-to-back Champions League titles by overcoming Arsenal on penalties in last season's final and will be the team to beat once again.
Contenders and debutants
Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have spent big this summer in hope of a deep run, while Bayern Munich can never be discounted when it comes to the discussion of potential winners.
History will be made in the league phase with LASK, Sabah and Como making their debuts appearances, the latter managed by Cesc Fabregas which sets up the possibility of a reunion with former club Arsenal.
Format and pots
All 36 qualified clubs will be divided into four pots of nine based on their club coefficients at the start of the season.
Under the format that was introduced two years ago, teams will play eight matches in the new league phase. They will no longer play three opponents twice – home and away – but will instead face fixtures against eight different teams, playing half of those matches at home and half of them away.
